 This beautiful Clam chair (also named Muslingen) was designed by Danish designer Phillip Arctander in Denmark 1944. Reupholstered in white sheepskin with original oak arms and legs. This Clam easy chair has matching buttons in light brown leather and is in good vintage condition. Measures: 76 cmH x 86 cmD x 65 cmW. Seatheight: 36 cm.

The story behind the Clam chair is quite amazing. In the 1990`s you could easily find these chairs at garage sales for less than 300 dollars. Then after Peter Kjelgaard, now with the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen, noticed an amusing chair on the block. Perched on cartoonish beech legs, its fabric-covered seat and back formed the shape of a happy open clam.  It has gained steady traction in the trophy market lately. In 2013 a pair­­—went for over $220,000 and everyone started dusting off their clam chairs and bringing them to ­market.
