Karo modular sofa by Torbjørn Afdal by B.J. Hansen for Bruksbo

A special modular sofa "Karo" designed for Bruksbo by Torbjørn Afdal. Norway. The sofa consists of a solid teak frame with tapered legs. Two back rests cushions that are removable. The sofa has with a teak storage box that can be moved between the cushions to suit seating needs. The box has a shelf and the lower compartment has two small drawers. Manufacturer's label is underneath the frame. The cushions are upholstered with Hallingdal fabric from Gudrandsdalen Ullvarefabrik and is a cooperation between fabricdesigner Nanna Ditzel and Halling Kock Design center. The sofa was produced from 1950-59.

Torbjørn Afdal was one of the leading designers at Bruksbo Tegnekontorer and in Scandinavia. Torbjørn Afdal's furnitures was purchased by Jacqueline Kennedy as a first lady in the White House and by the Japanese Emperor. In Torbjørn Afdal's later years he designed the Parliamentary and chairs and tables to the courthouse in Oslo. Furthermore, Torbjørn Afdal designed the office of then Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland. At the exhibition Norwegian Icons Oslo 2013, Torbjørn Afdal was represented with a great number of his furnitures
